Overview: 

Black Visions’ role of Campaigns Organizer will join our team to help support the development and implementation of Black Visions’ power building campaigns and strategies. As the Campaigns Organizer, this role will be responsible for implementing community organizing efforts that seek to change hearts, minds, and policies toward abolition, environmental justice and to realize community safety. Through regular community outreach, relationship building, and political education/training, this role will build a base of community members ready to take action on issues that impact their lives. Over the long term, This role is one of two Campaign Organizers we are currently hiring for, and though much of the work will be collaborative, this role will focus on our campaigns connected to community safety and building alternatives to the police.

Since 2017, Black Visions has been putting into practice the lessons learned from organizations before us as well as our direct experience building within the Movement for Black Lives, in order to shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. Through our intentional growth process, we aim to center our work in healing and transformative justice principles, sustainability, and developing Minnesota’s emerging Black leadership to lead powerful campaigns. By building movements from the ground up with an integrated model, we are creating the conditions for long term success and transformation.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

Power Building Campaigns  

  • Develop, support, and implement strategies to engage Black Visions’ base meaningfully in our campaigns, programs, and projects

  • Support efforts to deepen relationships with Black partner organizations and other critical partners, seeking opportunities for solidarity and collaboration

Base Outreach and Relationship Building 

  • Develop relationships with emerging and potential volunteers & members through 1-1 conversations, direct engagement, and intentional follow up 

  • Lead on efforts to develop and implement direct outreach & recruitment tactics (door knocks, phonebanks, community events, tabling, etc) 

    • Effectively enter and track data for current and new contacts 

Leadership Development

  • Directly support the development of emerging members and volunteers’ leadership capacity to engage in and lead Black Visions' campaigns and programs

  • Support leadership development projects (such as Freedom Fellows, Abolition School, PE training, etc)

Other duties as assigned*

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • 2+ years Experience managing and implementing long term field and outreach programs and strategies around issue-based and/or electoral campaigns

  • Experience  in leading and training others in community engagement tactics (door knocking, phonesbanks, street teams)

  • Love for and desire to be out, building relationships with Black community members 

  • Experience organizing in Black communities 

  • Working knowledge of local politics and relationships with local BIPOC leaders 

  • Proficiency using Microsoft and GSuite, internet based technology; 

  • Excellence in data and field turf management 

  • Positive and open personality

  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience managing multiple deadlines, and maintaining attention to detail

  • Common sense, flexibility, and teamwork skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment

  • Steadfast commitment to collective liberation and ability to speak and unite those behind Black Vision’s mission and vision

  • Time and project management skills; ability to pivot to meet current events and organizational needs while maintaining attention to detail

  • Access to reliable transportation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

VACCINATION TRANSPARENCY

Due to in person interactions during employment, candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated (Two Doses of either Moderna or Pfizer Vaccines or One Dose of J&J as well as all appropriate booster doses) against COVID-19 before commencing employment. Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Flexibility to work outside normal business hours that include evenings and weekends and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

*Due to COVID-19, Black Visions staff are currently working from home with a few moments (about 1x/month) when staff are expected in person. 

REPORTS TO & LOCATION

  • This position reports directly to the Lead Path Forward Organizer 

  • Position is located in Minneapolis, MN. All Black Visions staff must have a home address in Minnesota.

This is a full-time salaried position. Salary will be set commensurate with experience and will include a full package of benefits including health and dental insurance, matching retirement, investment in personal development, and an expansive time off policy. 

Salary range: $59,000- $61,000 pending experience
