Data Manager
OVERVIEW:
The Black Visions Data Manager focuses on data analysis, data strategy and prospect management for the organization. We expect this person to spend 50% of their time with the resource mobilization team, 25% with the organizing team and 25% with the communications team. The Data Manager leads Black Visions’ data needs by managing critical systems, conducting statistical analysis of data from across teams and supervising the Data Coordinator. They will be a creative thought partner and co-strategist by supporting other Directors/Managers and leading a Data Team of organizers/coordinators, responsible for different aspects of our data. A successful Data Manager will be laser-focused on the precision, transparency, and process needed in data to make sure it accurately represents our communities and facilitates power for our people.

In the first year of this role, the Data Manager will participate in our strategic planning activities as it relates to supporting our work around resource stewardship and our financial independence.

Since 2017, Black Visions has been putting into practice the lessons learned from organizations before us, as well, our direct experience in building within the Movement for Black Lives, in order to shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. Black Visions sees central to our work, the development of a Black-led ecosystem of arts, politics, and culture. Through our intentional growth process, we aim to center our work in healing and transformative justice principles, intentionally develop our organizations core “DNA” to ensure sustainability, and develop Minnesota’s emerging Black leadership to lead powerful campaigns. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
DATA ANALYSIS & STRATEGY
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in our data using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining
Interpret data and identify correlations using both univariate and multivariate analysis
Present a monthly dashboard of outcomes and campaign reports to the executive team
Create and maintain a list of organization wide program outcome reports and processes
Ensure all programs have current logic models
Create specialized reports and surveys as needed
Interpret data, analyze results using statistical and analytical techniques, and provide ongoing insights.
Be a co-strategist alongside team members on special projects and lead data systems for specific campaigns or programs (i.e. elections, large scale events, etc)
DATA MANAGEMENT
Manage and set data practices and principles for the organization
Develop and update relevant training manuals and guides
Research and train on new data systems and practices to maximize EveryAction use
Work with managers and staff directly to ensure database is being utilized consistently, efficiently, and with quality
Be lead administrator for all data systems across organization
Manage Data Team and directly supervise Data Coordinator and relevant consultants/contractors
Support and manage Data Coordinator to ensure implementation of training and coaching for staff
Data is becoming an increasingly wide field at Black Visions. This role will support staff in data projects within other platforms as needed.
EXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years of experience with data systems and analysis tools
Proficiency with movement-building CRMs required, preferably EveryAction and VAN
Experience writing queries and experience with large data sets and complex integrated systems - strong knowledge of databases and spreadsheets
Bonus points for experience with data visualization tools
Experience successfully implementing trainings, policies and procedures in a nonprofit organization
Preference for individuals with experience working in the nonprofit sector, and/or an academic institution, and who have been involved in fundraising or development
Experience in distilling large datasets, biographical information and complex financial data into actionable strategies and recommendations
Ability to explain statistical concepts in easy to understand language to colleagues with little to no background in data analysis
Strive to provide high quality support by being consistent, agile, reliable, and accessible to all.
Willingness to engage in the big picture AND do the work in the weeds, both as an individual and in deep collaboration with coworkers and as part of teams.
Must be relationship-oriented and motivated with strong interaction within the organization and across levels.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills with experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and MSWord as well as GSuite (bonus points if you are comfortable with project management software like monday.com)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Flexibility to work outside normal business hours that include evenings and weekends and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
*Due to COVID-19, Black Visions staff are currently working from home with a few moments (about 1x/month) when staff are expected in person.
REPORTS TO & LOCATION
This position reports directly to the Resource Mobilization Director
Position is located in Minneapolis, MN. All Black Visions staff must have a home address in Minnesota.

This is a full-time salaried position. Salary will be set commensurate with experience and will include a full package of benefits including health and dental insurance, matching retirement, investment in personal development, and an expansive time off policy.
Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience
